If you haven’t begun planning your Halloween party yet, its time to start! Whether you’re putting on a haunted house for your neighbors or just having a party with your friends, these Halloween decorating ideas can help you transform your backyard – and your deck – into a spooky spectacle that will haunt your guests.
You don’t have to be a carving artist who can scratch a masterpiece onto the face of a pumpkin in order to take your jack-o-lantern to the next level. If your carving skills limit you to traditional designs, upgrade your candle to a roll of toilet paper soaked in kerosene or some other slow-burning fuel.
Instead of lighting a fire in your fire pit, you could place a flaming pumpkin in the pit instead.

Ghost decorations are also great because they’re classic and relatively easy to make. These ones look like they’re coming up through the floor. You can have your ghosts coming up through the floor of your deck around chairs, your grill, or peaking out from behind potted plants.
Nothing says Halloween like a creepy graveyard. You can make one under a tree, or turn a garden bed into an overgrown graveyard. Add some large spider decorations crawling over the stones, fake cobwebs, or a skeleton or zombie arms as if the dead are trying to crawl out of the ground.
Skeleton Grin Candles
If you can get your hands on some old x-rays from your dentist (or, perhaps, make your own out of wax paper and pencil) these skeleton grin candles will make excellent decorations to scatter around your deck. Be sure to use battery-powered candles.
Decorate Your Patio Table
Your party will without a doubt have a table area where you’ll spread out all of your tasty Halloween treats. This could be a good opportunity to gross out your guests with some festive Halloween table decorations.
This idea can easily be done with items you might have around your home. Or if not, they can easily be purchased at a low cost.
Find some jars, throw in some plastic animals, insects, eyeballs, fingers, etc., and fill the jars with an icky-colored liquid. You could try using green tea or apple juice.
